Terms of Service
Lento · Last updated: October 11, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Christopher Schwemley, doing business as Lento ("we", "us") for using Lento, our household budgeting app (the "Service"). We've tried to keep them short and readable. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Who can use it
- You must be 18 or older and live in the United States.
- During the beta, accounts are by invitation only. An invitation is personal; please don't share it.
- You may use the Service for your own household's finances, including a small business you run that shares the household's money. It isn't for managing other people's money for pay.
2. Your account and your household
- Keep your sign-in safe. Use a strong password that you don't use elsewhere; we recommend turning on two-step sign-in. You're responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you think someone else got in.
- Your household is shared. Everyone you add to your household can see and change the household's budget, accounts and transactions, connect or disconnect banks, and clear the household's data, the same as you. Add only people you trust with that.
- Give accurate information, and keep your email address current so we can reach you.
3. Connecting your bank (Plaid)
- We use Plaid Inc. to connect to your banks. By connecting an account, you authorize us and Plaid to access, for the accounts you choose, your account details, balances and transactions, and you agree that your information will be handled by Plaid as described in the Plaid End User Privacy Policy.
- Connect only accounts you're allowed to. That means your own accounts, joint accounts, or business accounts you're authorized to use.
- Read-only: the Service can't move money, make payments or trades, or change anything at your bank.
- Bank data can be late, incomplete or wrong, and connections sometimes break (for example after you change your bank password). Your bank's own statements are always the official record.
4. Not financial advice
The Service helps you organize and understand your money. Budgets, forecasts, projections (including financial-independence dates and Social Security estimates), "what you can do" suggestions and AI answers are estimates and general information, not financial, investment, tax or legal advice. They depend on your data and on assumptions that may not hold. We aren't a bank, broker, investment adviser or tax preparer. Decide what's right for you, and talk to a qualified professional before major financial decisions.
5. AI features
Some features use AI: suggesting categories, reading receipts and answering questions in Ask AI. AI can be wrong. Check categories, receipt totals and answers before relying on them. Suggested budget changes are only applied when you review and save them. How AI providers handle your data is in the Privacy Policy.
6. Your data
- It's yours. You keep all rights to your data, receipts and other content. You give us permission to store, process and display it only as needed to provide the Service to you and your household, as the Privacy Policy describes.
- You can leave any time: disconnect banks, ask for a copy of your data, and delete your account (see the Privacy Policy for how and how fast).
- Feedback: if you send ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve the Service without owing you anything.
7. Fees
The Service is free during the beta. If we introduce paid plans, we'll tell you the price at least 30 days before you'd be charged, and you'll only be charged if you choose a paid plan. You can cancel anytime.
8. Fair use
Please don't:
- access other people's accounts or data, or try to get around our security, sign-in limits or household walls;
- probe, scan or test the Service for weaknesses without our written permission (if you find a security problem, please tell us at [email protected]; we appreciate it);
- copy, resell, or build a competing product from the Service, or scrape it with bots;
- upload anything illegal or harmful (such as malware), or use the Service to break the law.
9. The beta and availability
The Service is in beta: it's still being built, features will change, and there may be bugs or downtime. We back up data nightly and work to keep it safe, but we can't promise the Service will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we ever shut the Service down, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and a way to export your data.
10. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts the Service or other people at risk, or is required to be closed by law. Unless it's urgent or the law prevents it, we'll tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
11. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Some states don't allow these disclaimers, so parts may not apply to you.
12. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows:
- we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, savings or data, arising from the Service, including decisions you make based on it, and including problems caused by banks, Plaid or other third parties;
- our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.
These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, for example for gross negligence or willful misconduct.
13. Disputes
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at [email protected]; most problems can be fixed that way. These terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Fresno County, California, except that either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court where you live.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using the Service after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
15. The rest
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. If a part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't given up the right to later. You can't transfer these terms to someone else; we may transfer them if our business is sold or reorganized, and the new owner must honor them.
